Happy Clothing
Ethically Conscious Clothing
What is so happy about our clothing? It is not exactly cheap...
It was never our intention to carry on with the trend of "cheap", "disposable" clothing, as it usually comes with a big price tag for the worker's wellbeing and the environment...
Consider for a moment the amount of resources, energy and (often sweat shop) labour involved before a plant or fiber becomes a garment that you can wear.
When a "cheap" garment has outlived its short life, you throw away a lot more then just rags...
The garments that we stock are not only unique designs... they are built to last you many seasons (with proper care).
Our international designers produce their clothing in small, locally owned and run workshops in Indonesia or India. Work hours are reasonable and workers are treated with dignity and respect. The designing-production relationship between our mainly European designers and Asian labourers is based on international cooperation, mutual respect and cultural awareness.
Although wages are usually cheaper than in Europe or Australia, the workers earn fair wages and have a good standard of living within their community. The money generated in these workshops supports the local community by providing jobs and funds.
The workers are not pressured into deadlines with unreasonable overtime hours, so they have time and energy to devote to hand making great quality clothing with eye for detail and durability at a price that doesn't cost the earth...
In short : Happy workers in a happy environment make happy clothing!
Some of our designers also take extra care to use natural or even organically grown fabrics and natural dyes.
Our Australian designers tend to hand-make all their clothing in their own home-based workshops.
